Faith extends call
Members of Faith Lutheran Church met on Sunday, August 19, 2007 to decide the man to whom they would extend a call to become their pastor.
The Rev. John Herfurth, Circuit Counselor, offered an opening prayer. He then spoke briefly about the process by which a call is extended and by which the pastor receiving the call would consider it.
Mr. Ben Rice, chairman of the Call Committee, made a motion to accept the nomination of the four candidates. After the slate was accepted, Call Committee members read a profile for each of the candidates. Questions and answers followed the profiles. By secret ballot, those in attendance cast their votes. Due to no simple majority on the first ballot, the candidate with the fewest votes was rermoved from the list. On the second ballot, the Rev. William D. O'Connor was selected and unanimously chosen as the pastor to receive our call.
Pastor O'Connor is currently serving as pastor at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Winamac, Indiana. He received his Bachelor's degree from Concordia in Ann Arbor, Michigan and his Master of Divinity from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is married to Kelly D. O'Connor and they have three children.
We ask your prayers for Rev. O'Connor as he considers this call to shepherd us here at Faith Lutheran Church in Greenfield, Indiana.
