Midweek Program (Faith by Heart)

At Faith Lutheran Church, children learn what God did for His people in the Bible to save them from their sins, as well as where they can find Him saving them today.

St. Paul instructs parents to bring up their children “in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”(Ephesians 6:4)  To assist parents in this very important task Faith Lutheran Church has a midweek program called “Faith by Heart,” which serves children from Kindergarten through 5th grade, after which time they begin the process of preparing for Holy Communion at our Lord’s altar (Junior Catechesis). 

“Faith by Heart” offers instruction in the Bible and the teachings of the Evangelical Lutheran Faith through study of  Luther’s Small Catechism.  It also includes memorization of Bible verses and the Catechism, along with instruction in the singing of liturgical texts and the Church’s hymns.  It also gives children another opportunity (in addition to Sunday morning) to develop a sense of Christian community with their peers by enjoying the company of other Christian young people.

Every session of “Faith by Heart” concludes with a brief chapel service (20 minutes or so), and parents are encouraged to attend those services with their children.  The more parents participate in the process of Christian learning and worship with their children, the more they’ll be able to grow with them in knowledge of Scripture, and in the ability to apply its teachings to everyday life.  It is our prayer that through the various Christian education opportunities offered at Faith Lutheran Church, the Holy Spirit would continue to call, gather, and enlighten all of us, that we might be strengthened in our faith and grow in our love of the Lord.

“Faith by Heart” meets for eight weeks every Wednesday evening in the Fall, and then again for six weeks every Wednesday evening in the Winter.  Its schedule is as follows . . .
